February 2021 Update


Hello Internet,

I hope you are doing well, and that you are safe and sound given all the external events right now. Living in midwest USA I spent this last week conserving power due to the polar vortex. However I was able to get some goals accomplished this month. First I completed some training on creating UI in Unreal, which did confirm that I will need to redo the UI at some point. I was also able to complete the basics of the storm system so the dev build I am working from is now as complete as the original "launch".

I spent some time to layout my goals and thoughts for the future of the project. To guide myself for how I want to expand the base that I have built. Some of the ideas I have on the list are: 

  • Adding additional resources (I have already been working on this on), Add Categories like "Raw" and "Processed", 
  • New building types like Research, Technology, and Governance buildings.
  • Laid out several buildings for each type. This list for each type can expand or reduce over time.
  • Add a research tree to unlock access to the new buildings and technologies.
  • Add a decision tree to present the user with tough choices that can affect the game.
  • Add a save and load system.
  • Add a guided tutorial level

I also spent some time this month to update the appearance of the game. Mostly replacing the prototype generic assets (like cubes, spheres and cones) with actual assets. Most of the assets are made using Asset Forge (made by Kenny) with a few assets from Synty Studios (https://syntystore.com/) and Quaternius (https://www.patreon.com/quaternius). I am honestly a bit excited to share some of the assets I have been working on, you will see them below.

As I stated in last update I was considering going to an every other month update schedule. After much though I have decided that I will be doing both. If I have anything I feel is significant to share I will still make a post for the month. However on months when I was busy or do not have anything interesting to share I will skip posting but will post the next month after skipping even if there is not much to update. TLDR; I will often post monthly but will post every other month for sure.
